Is this a 5 star hotel? No. Is it pricey? Yes. However, you can't get a much better location. They charge for their location-as they know they can. The hotel wasn't the cleanest I've been in, (wasn't the dirtiest either) and it was dated, but it served its purpose. You can walk to down town and the beach and many restaurants. I was a little grossed out to find toe-nail clippings on our carpet in our room, but I got over it. The shower head is SUPER low (I'm 5'5 and had to bend a little) so beware of getting your morning stretches done just from showering. Check in was speedy and easy, receptionist was friendly but did lack eye contact (just a pet peeve of mine, especially when you're in the service industry). Again, location is awesome, hotel left a little more to be desired, BUT it served its purpose and I would go back again. :)

It sure is tacky-- standard (old) cheap hotel furnishings, a peculiarly super-powered (but hard to control) air-conditioning unit, a continental breakfast that is barely to speak of, and a very raucous bar full of young people singing Sweet Caroline. But it did the trick. It's only a couple blocks from the water, it was clean, and the price was right. Hopefully, you don't go to a cute beach town to hang out in your hotel room.

We stayed here for three nights. It is definitely nothing to write home about but it got the job done ... close to the shops, restaurants, and beach. Everyone was very polite that worked there However, it was not very clean.

We were on a road trip and decided to stay in Saint Joseph MI for the night on our way back. We initially thought twice by the look of the outside of this hotel. We ventured in to see a LONG line of people near the desk and some were seeming upset and/or complaining. We overheard that their computer's were down and it was taking a bit to check people in. We went for a walk and to look at a few other hotels (all were booked). Once we were able to talk to Miles at the front desk, who mind you in all the craziness was extremely friendly and said he was sure there was rooms but, wouldn't know for a little bit. He took our name and number, called us at dinner to say they had a room for us. We checked in with a very friendly girl who's name I can not recall. Rooms were clean, good size and we enjoyed our brief over night. They even gave a us a super cheap rate because of waiting and we were friendly and understanding. We did not partake in the breakfast offered as there was a large amount of people staying there and a long line. Nice place....great staff!

This is a ripoff. Way over priced at just over $200/night for what you get. This is a nasty hotel and yes the most I've ever paid for such a lame hotel. Hair stubble in tub, weird white powder on floor near a/c and a curtain that was broken unable to close. Choose another place if you're seeking a hotel in St. Joseph, MI.

When renting a hotel 100$ cheaper than the rest in the area you expect little in terms of the facility. But the 100$ savings isn't worth it when their customer service will ruin your vacation. 1st we were yelled at while checking in, being told that our cells phones were bring down their computers. The front desk staff, even after being told to do so, refused to use a manual method to check in customers, stating that it would "make a lot of paperwork for later". We waited between 45 - 90 minutes to check in for a party of 4. 2nd we were blamed by multiple staff members for pre-existing damage to the rooms, had 2 of our rooms double booked and had to talk to managers on multiple occasions for simple requests like a blanket for our bed instead of just sheets. Last, the front desk refused to let a large delivery use the elevators to come to our room. We, again had to talk to a manager, to get them access to our room and then could over hear the staff complaining about us, and our guests loudly in the hallway. I will never rent from this hotel again, in any other city it wouldn't be open for more than a few months and only stays hardly alive by the lack of other facilities within the location.

I am giving this hotel a higher review than I thought I would. I got a block of rooms for my wedding on August 1st. The entire process of blocking off rooms was a nightmare and this hotel was no exception. As St. Joe is a tourist area it was hard to find a place that would even block off rooms. Regardless, we blocked off 15 rooms. We got a notice saying we had filled our block so we requested to add a second... But it wasn't so simple. Getting ahold of ANYONE was ridiculously impossible. Leia, the manager, was the only person who could open room blocks and we called nine days in a row to speak with her and kept being by told to call back tomorrow. Once we were finally contacted and given an extra block we only had about 9 days for people to fill it. Yikes! Luckily the prices of rooms dropped a bit so guests who still needed to book after the block closed didn't pay much more, we honestly did not receive much of a price break anyways. Before the wedding we were really worried that there were going to be major issues with our out of town guests at check in because of the disorganized feel we got while planning but everything worked out without any issues. All in all, you are paying for the area- if you want a nice room, this really isn't the place for you. We had a great group of people in town for our wedding: the front desk people were all so nice and even handed out welcome bags to our guests and we enjoyed the little bar in the hotel- run down but fun is where you make it (our Chicago guests loved the prices there too) The nice staff is why we opted for the four star. If I needed to stay here again I would; but if you are planning to get a block just make sure you do so in advance because communication is not managements strong point here.

Visited here over Labor Day weekend. I must admit that the location for the hotel is prime real estate but the services and amenities were lacking. The help was courteous but that's were the buck stops. Our rooms were a bit dated and left a little unkept. The pool was decorated with strange decorum. The pool had enough chlorine in it that I thought I was put into a Riot Control attack. My eyes became blurry with the pain that overcame me from the overuse of chlorine. I wasn't able to see for what was over 15 mins. I was better off going to the beach. My room was initially ok I can accept a large degree of less than satisfactory accommodations as a military guy that can usually accept the fact that I'm not on the ground and have a roof over my head but the real reason I even decided to write the review was of the infestation of ants that were in my room! I was on the 4th floor!! How does that even happen?! 1st floor ok I can see that as a possibility but the 4th! That means it's an on going issue that has yet to be addressed. We asked to move and due to the holiday we were told we were stuck and didn't receive any compensation for the issue. The only reason I didn't give the hotel one star is that you can make it to the beach in 5mins on foot and down town in 2. If you have high expectations of a comfortable stay and don't mind the travel I would put your money on a better accommodation down the road. I have pictures of the ant issue should this review not be taken serious.

I stayed at this place a number of times for a number of years. Looks like it has finally degraded to hovel status. While I like the charm of 70's hotels, I do not like the 'city view' which half of the rooms view from the balcony. I've put in requests to have a beach side view, tried to change rooms, but after nearly a dozen visits I have never had a beach side room. So be prepared to watch patrons of the liquor store across the street from your balcony. The bar is open late and has a pool table. Can't say much more.

Worst hotel I stayed in over 33 years. TV didn't work, didn't give you a bar of soap ( u had to BUY IT), pillows like rocks, air conditioning broke, and breakfast was a joke. You know it's a bad hotel when they don't credit you for really poor amenities! Much better places in the area. This place needs tearing down!

We stayed at this hotel because we were visiting a wedding in St. Joseph MI and this was close to the Shadowroom ball. This hotel is filthy, wallpaper cut outs can be blatantly seen as pieces are cut on and glued over holes. The beds are hard and its musty. I cannot believe this owner feels that $250 is a legit price without spending any money on improvements. On a room block $189? This hotel is not worth one dollar over $90, and that is being extremely generous. I have stayed at cleaner $50-$70 range hotels.

Completely out of date. The bedspread was a blanket between 2 sheets. There was mold in the tiles - gross! Tile-ex could have cleaned that. Thought it would be closer to the beach but it's a half mile walk. Extremely expensive for the accommodation.

We nearly did not book here based on the negative reviews posted- we had a late change of plans for the holiday weekend and nothing else was available, so we took a chance. Front Desk: The people we encountered at the front desk during check in and check out were helpful and polite. They tried to find us an upper floor room without success when we asked for it and they apologized that they weren't able to grant our request. Hotel Decor: Yes- overall the decor is a bit on the dated side, but not horribly so. I likened the lobby and the room that we stayed in to the decor of the older hotels just off "the strip" in Las Vegas. We didn't go to the hotel bar although we were tempted to just because of the other reviewer's "divey" comments. General bathroom comments: The room we stayed in had a detectable shower head in the fashion of the "Shower Massage" but without the massage settings and probably built more durable for hotel use. YES- when it was in its holder the shower head was a bit low, but it could be detached easily and held as high as your arm can reach. The shampoo/conditioner/bath gel dispenser in our shower was about 7/8 full when we arrived, but we found the product to be very watery. To really use it as intended requires quite a handful. There were also individual size bottles of shampoo and conditioner and a bar of soap in a small tray near the sink. Overall the bathroom was quite clean and logically laid out. Bed comments: I prefer a firmer mattress and the king bed in our room was somewhere between "firm" and "medium". The pillows were a bit odd- I couldn't figure out if they were feather or foam. I found them to be more on the uncomfortable side and wished that I had brought pillows from home. Other room comments: The room doors resounded with a loud bang if not closed carefully and the person in the room "next door" hadn't quite mastered the art of quiet closing which caused me to wake up with a start in the wee hours of the morning a couple of times. As another reviewer mentioned- the elevators were quiet and you had to pay attention to know that the elevator had arrived on your floor and the doors opened. The air conditioning (individual room window unit) was very weak and seemed to mostly be just moving the room temperature air around. A refrigerant recharge seemed as if it was needed. Facility comments: As others had mentioned, the location is ideal and there is a private parking lot (more about that in a moment) for guest use that is ONLY available for guests. We were dismayed that a few guests had parked trucks with boat/watercraft/trailer in effect taking up two spaces. We were fortunate to get one of the last spaces and would have been unhappy if we had been unable to park because of guests rudely taking up two spaces for in effect one vehicle. Breakfast was the usual Continental Plus fare- including scrambled eggs, sausage, breads, muffins, a few fruits, cereal and the ever present make your own Belgian waffles. There was quite a line at the waffle maker- so we passed on that because we were pressed for time. I feel that they could stand to have one or two more waffle makers available. With all of the families staying at the hotel for the holiday weekend- we felt it was unreasonably difficult to get a plate of food, eat and then leave to go to the beach (or whatever). Why do parents feel that their pre-schooler should pick out their breakfast items and fill their own plate (painfully slowly) when there are (many) others in line behind them? It may be a "cute photo-op" to the parents but it's agony for at least some of us. Cost- We stayed on a holiday weekend and paid a breathtaking premium room rate. The rate was comparable to what we paid per night last year at a true 5 star Northern California resort hotel with a 36 hole ocean side golf course on the property. The final word is that if the prices were a bit less stratospheric, we might consider coming here again. Unfortunately what we felt that we got was a 2 1/2 star hotel at a 5 star price (at least on a holiday weekend).

The only thing good about this hotel is the location! The entrance was is decent, however, the room we stayed in was literally from the 70s with orange curtains, green carpet, and hideous wallpaper. The was sand in the bed and even worse, a nasty washcloth hanging on the towel bar with black pubic hair on in from the previous guest! We discovered this the morning after check in and spoke with the manager immediately. The manager stated that he would take care of it and we left for the day. When we arrived back at the room, the towel was still there! Of course the manager was already gone for the day at this point so the front desk clerk took my complaint and removed it from the room 15 min later. This hotel is gross and outdated. The imitation eggs and stale coffee at breakfast was also disgusting. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. This hotel does not care about guests at all!

One star: it served its purpose and is LITERALLY the only hotel within 3 miles of downtown St. Joe and walkable distance to the beach. (Surprised a chain hotel hasn't opened one in this vicinity! They'd make a KILLING) Two stars: Don't know why people are complaining about cust srvc. Upon arrival, the manager actually checked us in (Freeman) and was genuinely nice and gave us tips on the best places to eat Three stars: Fun laid back dive bar attached to the restaurant itself. Hubby and I actually had a great time here (they have two pool tables and darts and an arcade game) The bad: Rooms are outdated and need hotel rehab stat. They are also small. The shower head is super short (it was perfect for me, I am 5'2") but my hubby is 6'0", so at the highest height adjusted, it maybe hit his shoulders.

This place has the distinction of being both the worst and most expensive hotel I've ever stayed. It's disgusting to me that they charge $250 per night. I don't care how great the location is; this hotel clearly lacks all sense of ethics by charging that much for filth. So here are the specifics: - The elevators were slow and creepy. I doubt they have been serviced recently. - The room was gross. It had green carpet from the 70s + tacky wallpaper. The TV barely worked. I had to be sitting in a certain spot for the remote to click. It had about 15 blurry channels. It was like my grandma's house in the 80s. The pillows were lumpy and only half had pillowcases. There was no comforter or blanket, just two sheets and one of those old school brown felt things. The bathroom had not been cleaned maybe ever. The shower curtain was covered in stains. The soap and conditioner dispensers were half full and the shampoo one was empty so it's obvious they didn't check anything in there. The balcony is a joke. Our friend stayed in their "suite" and it was just as small and trashy as our room. (He did have 4 pillowcases though). There were also no robes. I had assumed for $250/night there would be robes. - The maid service was loud and bizarre. In the morning every door on our floor was open, but no staff could be found. I could see people's stuff just sitting out in completely open rooms. We ran back & put up the "Do not disturb" sign on our room. The doors were still open when we returned hours later with still no staff around. - There is also a club on the first floor that may be the trashiest bar I've ever been to. It was smelly, smoky, dirty just so incredibly gross. - There is a random cage full of parakeets in a corner of the hotel. I have no idea why. - I'm shocked there is even one nice review on this place. I was with a large group for a wedding and we came from all over the US from all different backgrounds and we ALL agreed this place was terrible and expensive. This place could easily be on Hotel Hell, Hotel Impossible and/or Bar Rescue. Saint Joseph and Silver Beach are so beautiful and quaint. I can't believe such a dump exists there.

If there were 0 stars as a choice I would select that. We chose this hotel because it is pet friendly. What "pet friendly" means to this property is dirty and old. The pictures on the web site are NOTHING like the rooms. I realize you assume some additional responsibility when you travel with your pet but to be booked in a room that is this far and misleading from their website is insane. The sheets are dirty and look as though someone's makeup is on them. The floor hasn't been vacuumed. There was a dead smashed bug on the wall of the shower. The shower didn't drain. I could keep going. This is a beautiful area of Michigan but this hotel is not the place to stay. Our beautiful overnight plans have been dampened by this property. Sadly, we were already paid and stuck because of having our dog. We won't be back.

The only thing positive about this hotel is the location....if you absolutely have to be in the downtown area. We were here only because of a wedding at a nearby location and it was easy to walk to. It was about $130 for a Thursday and $220 for a Friday night, both of which are completely unreasonable for what you get. If it wasn't for the location, I would expect to pay about $60 for a hotel of this quality (We are not overly critical of hotels and typically stay in budget friendly mainstream chains). Room had stained carpet, ceiling had about a six foot patch from old water damage that looked horrible, beds only have sheets and no comforter, bathroom was clean but not in good condition with the shower head at about 5' tall, TV was an old tube tv, elevators took forever, etc. Staff was not friendly and very abrupt. Cleaning staff seemed to be always in the way and left bags of dirty towels laying in the hallway for extended periods of time. Key cards didn't work correctly and you had to put it in and out several times every time you wanted to get in. Breakfast is subpar to what you would find in a typical chain hotel. I spent a lot of time going back and forth before I booked based on the reviews here and another travel site....listen to your gut...don't stay here....

With the Silver Beach Hotel you sort of just get what you pay for. It is not the greatest but the location is great for the price. The lobby is ok and you do get breakfast. The room is ok. It was clean but I will say that the tub was slightly stained grey. The bed and bedding were comfortable and you get a fridge and a microwave which is great. Our balcony was bit suspect because it was loaded with pigeon droppings and there were some rusty nails. We did mention it to a service guy on our way out so hopefully they did something about it. Walking out your door and being right down town and by the beach make up for all of that in my opinion.

Older hotel with a really nicely remodeled lobby and a swimming pool...doesn't get better than being right by the beach on the bluff. I recommend staying here if you're looking to be downtown for a few nights. I would also suggest this for families with children because of the pool. Clean rooms but older furnishings.

  • Tracy B.

Yuck, I did not enjoy my stay at the Silver Beach. In the lobby you are greated with the lovely sound of extremly loud birds, which are kept in a cage in the corner of the room. On top of the fact that I don't find this exactly sanitary, it is extremly irritating to listen to while you're waiting to be checked in. The room was worse than the lobby. The shower had one of those removable heads that you find in a mobile home, and can only be used by a child or very short adult if you don't want to hold it the entire time you're showering. The room also had a weird smell to it. We paid $165 for one night in this hotel, and if you ask me, it was $120 dollars too expensive for what we got.

My stay here is a lesson to research before booking. I am shocked by the discrepancies between how this hotel promotes itself on line and it's actual state of neglect. This place is a dump. It's been neglected and it's nasty. Crummy toilet seats, carpeting and common area furniture does not invite you to sit down on it. Better to pay a little more at another hotel in town that is true to it's high end star rating. It gets better. On my last, I get a note under my door that there's no water from midnight to 6am. I shower before bed but wake up the next morning wanting to brush my teeth and wash my face. You guessed it, no water at 6:30am. Then the front desk had to churn over whether or not to provide a discount. It too late for me to change this review to one star or I would.

  • Jennifer E.

Quote from the hotel website... "a hospitable and warm staff" No. These people were very rude to my senior parents who were visiting from out-of-town. This is not acceptable. The Buoy Bar is exceptionally loud and NOT a place for children to be around; one can hear the horrible language from the lobby. There is a new facility in the Harbor Shores area and another local hotel in the downtown area. Please choose wisely.

Horrible price gouging over holidays. More than double. Clerk admitted hotel jacks price up. Hotel is old, not a 5 star by any means, yet quoted almost $300 for July 4th, plus taxes and fees. Lost my business.

This wasn't the worst hotel I've ever stayed in, but it definitely ranks near the top. We were in town for a wedding and needed to book a hotel room for a two-night stay. The closest we could get the night before was in Notre Dame, IN, so we booked the Silver Beach for our second night. It was just down the street from the wedding venue, and we got a good rate because we were coming in on a Sunday night. The reviews on another travel website were decent, and I stupidly didn't check out Yelp before booking. Bad idea. The whole hotel is very dated. The lobby decor, the pool area, the elevators, the carpeting in the hallways and the rooms, all of it. And not "late 90s" dated. More like "late 80s" dated. Don Johnson in is hey day would not look out of place in this hotel. And if I'm being honest, I'm not terribly fussy. I could deal with the 30 year old decor if it didn't feel quite so dingy. The elevators were creaky and dark, and they smelled terribly of smoke. The pool area looked clean enough. We didn't bring our suits and didn't plan to go swimming, but again, it just looked dingy. We didn't go in the dive bar inside the hotel, but it was packed the whole time we were there. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. The room was okay. It was serviceable. It wasn't the nicest, but at least it didn't smell like cigarette smoke. The bathroom was surprisingly updated compared to the rest of the hotel. I'd say the bathroom renovations were done around 15-20 years ago, and they looked out of place next to everything else in the hotel. However, if the bathrooms were gross, we wouldn't have stayed there. I'm not fussy about old carpeting or outdated lobby decor, but I AM fussy about old, gross bathrooms. Nothankyou. The hotel itself is loud. Our room faced Main Street, so we had traffic noise to contend with. On top of that, the hallways were just loud. Lots of families staying there because of the proximity to the beach, lots of foot traffic from hotel staff, and just in general I felt like the property was loud. I'm not looking for absolute silence when I stay at a hotel, but this was too loud for me to even consider a return trip. The continental breakfast is decent. Again, serviceable. The strangest thing is that there are these giant parrot-type birds in that room that are so LOUD. Easily the strangest thing I saw there. The day we arrived, we tried to pull into the lot and the lot was roped off for some 5K going through town, and we couldn't get in. We saw a group of hotel staff outside, smoking on their break, and we were generally unimpressed with their appearance, and the fact that they were on hotel property, but their overall behavior and appearance gave us the impression that this wasn't the 5-star place advertised on a travel website. If you've already read this far, you can see we were right. The proximity to the beach is nice, and I'm sure that's a draw for families. However, the overall quality of the hotel for the nightly price just doesn't seem worth it to me. We will not be staying here again.

Much like the reviews below, I agree this hotel is rundown and overpriced but man is it a great location. *shaking fist* I've stayed here with others several times now and as of our last stay in December we will not be going back. The hotel bar has become (more) uninviting. It wasn't the worst place I've been before but now...... Now It's effecting the rest of the hotel and the staff/management do not care. With our last experience there was quite the crowd. some that was hanging around in the lobby and breakfast room. Some from the bar, some not (even after last call). It wasn't bad enough the the disruption but the unwarranted cat-calls and racial slurs put it over the top. And management does not care, while it's happening or later when brought to their attention. They were actually petty enough to wake us early (repeatedly) and harass us until our departure.

Don't waste your money! $250 for a room that should have been $79.00. Old, dirty, out of date. Hotel room smelled. Phone in room had the cord ripped out of the wall and exposed bare wires. Nasty green stained carpet in room, probably 30 years old. Indoor pool had tile work being done while pool was open, not to mention the missing and stained ceiling tiles as well. The attached bar had plenty of questionable local clientele hanging around. I expected a lot more for the money. The restaurant that we were referred to by the front desk was also not very good but that's another review itself.

Stayed in room 723 on top floor. Right next to the elevator. ... and did not hear it once. Nice view. Great location. 3 blocks from beach. Nice neighborhood . Clean room. Comfortable bed. Friendly staff. I was really concerned after reading reviews but it was not the worst hotel I have been in but it was better then a couple I have stayed at in vegas. I would stay again.

I really don't understand why this hotel has so many poor reviews. It's a clean and affordable hotel that is close to the beach and all of the State St. shops. It's not a boutique hotel, and never will be--but it's a workhorse. And a great place to stay on a budget (see special internet and AAA rates on their website). True, the continental breakfast wasn't amazing, and the decor is dated (although I kind of liked the 1980s Miami feel), but hopefully when you stay here you don't spend a lot of time in your room-- because you're at the beach. The hotel was busy when we were there, and everyone looked pretty happy. The staff at the front desk were also really nice and helpful.

I really wanted to give this place higher ratings but a few issues stopped me from doing so.... The good stuff first: This place is an ideal location. We loved that it was very close to the beach, shops and restaurants. I loved that our room was spacious and the bed was super comfortable. The room was equipped with a microwave and refrigerator. We also took advantage of their fitness center. First negative mark: When I called to make the reservation, for a minute I thought I had the wrong number. The person obviously lacked hospitality and customer service skills. He pretty much just took my information and hung up the phone. I travel a good amount and have stayed in modest hotels and I always get the " We look forward to you staying with us" or something like that. Our conversation was awkward and the last thing he said was "do you want your confirmation number?"-- so informal. Anyway, I did not want this to taint my expectation. Upon arrival to the hotel, the person at the front desk was friendly and welcoming. We felt good about the whole thing and were were not turned off by the physical conditions of the hotel... pretty standard and we felt like we were on vacation. We only stayed for two days, but the first morning we got a knock on our door from the cleaning crew... very early!! We told them we weren't ready yet. I guess that was not the right move because they never came back to clean our room. The last day we were there I couldn't shower... there was no hot water. I waited a while, but it didn't happen... just cold water. I could have given this place 2 stars, but again, we REALLY liked the location and the room was pretty decent... I would honestly stay here again...

Location - Great! hotel -- RUN the other way. I can not list all the things that are awful about this place. The KS bed we both rolled to the middle. The AC sounded like a jet engine and in the morning the curtain was visibly warn. So much is there were TONS of spots where the light would shine through. They obviously sell out as the parking lot was full - so my guess is they don't give a rat's backside if they get bad reviews or not.

One of the two hotels in the area. Our friend got married, and we picked this without looking at reviews: HOTEL DECOR: Hotel was straight out of the 70s. Carpeting looked old, the elevators looked like they belonged in a trendy dance club. Things were clean and well maintained, but I wouldn't consider this a "modern" hotel. ROOM: Room looked dated as well, with the exception of a new TV. Walls looked like they had been clearly painted over. Carpet was an ugly green carpet, that had probably been there for decades. Bathroom was TINY, and felt like walking into a closet. CLEANLINESS: Room and sheets were clean. Bathroom looked old, and had seen better days, but was about as clean as you could get it. They used this lemon smelling cleaner everywhere. It was very strong, and gave the whole hotel a read smell. PRICE: We got a wedding fair, and paid $128 a night. I overheard a phone call saying the nightly cost would be $200 for others. This is not a hotel I would spend more than $100 for. LOCATION: Great location, walking distance to the beach. However, location is on par with the other competitors hotel in the "downtown" area. OVERALL: Very dated, tacky hotel. Definitely not worth the cost, but I think they can get away with it due to the location. We would not stay here again, and would stay at the other downtown hotel.

I never stepped foot in the hotel and my experience with them is a nightmare in the works and I won't recommend them to anyone!!! First of all, I called the hotel Friday and spoke to a young lady named Christine (who was in training I found out) to reserve a room for Saturday. I was told I just needed a credit to reserve the room for the night so I had to call them back once I got my card. I get my card and call the hotel back and got a hold of a guy named Korey (with a K is what he told me). When I told Korey I spoke to Christine and she told me all I needed was a credit card he asked me for my email address so he can email the confirmation to me and he took my card number, gave me a verbal confirmation number, told me check in is at 3pm, and that was that. So comes the bad part... We get to Michigan for our event and a family emergency occurred to where we needed to get back to Chicago so I called Silver Beach to cancel my reservation which I was still early for and I also expected a cancellation fee. NIGHTMARE TIME: I called and got on the phone with a manager named Freeman Gilbert who basically told me "good luck with that but you're still being fully charged for the room so you might as well come". He didn't show any sympathy to the matter and didn't care to hear anything else I was trying to say. He told me that when I made the reservation that I should have been told that it was their policy not to refund any money for reservations. I told him I dealt with a girl that was being trained and she didn't mention that because I wouldn't have reserved a room under those conditions. He said well you should have received your confirmation email where it states their policy. I told him I never received the email and after him looking in their system he determined the email wasn't sent and the guy Korey screwed up. At the point he should have admitted their fault and refunded my money. HE DIDN'T!!! he decided to defend their incompetence. I When I told him I would dispute the charge with my bank, while I was still on the phone with him, mind you it was still 2 hours before my reserved time, he charged my card prematurely in the midst of our conversation. He was very rude and by far the had one of the worst attitudes of anyone I've dealt with in customer service. I offered him the opportunity to reverse the charge and he said "no dispute it" in a very ignorant tone, also. This saga is still pending, i have disputed the charge with my bank, and I will post the outcome of this debacle. I will also be informing the group I travel with and that recommends this hotel about this situation because of its nonprofessional demeanor. I am hoping he is reprimanded and I intend to contact the hire ups about this situation.

absolute DUMP for 250 dollars a night...you should get 1. clean room 2. decent accomodations 3. normal conditions 4. indoor pool should be clean and heated. what you actually get 1. room that is sprayed with air freshner to cover up the moldy smell 2. dirty bathroom- had hair in the tub, sink, etc..(gross) 3. beds and carpet smelled. 4. pool is ice cold water, kids lips turn purple when they got in the location is absolutely a 5 star location...BUT the hotel is absolutely horrible. I cant really endorse it. If it was 100 bucks a night, it would get 2 stars. Stay at the holiday inn, or sleep in your car..this isnt worth it.

Eeeeek. What. were. we. thinking? My BF and I booked a night at Silver Beach Hotel based on its location and the fact that it is dog-friendly. I really should have listened to the reviews on Trip Advisor. Ooops. First, let me say that the location of this hotel is pretty awesome. Close to the beach, downtown, etc. I also appreciated the mediocre hotel bar, as we couldn't seem to find much nightlife in St. Joe's. That's where the awesome ends. Our room was definitely questionable. Our $313/ night with tax room (it was Labor Day weekend, but ARE YOU SERIOUS!?). For that kind of money, I'd expect 4-5 star hotel accommodations. Not the Silver Beach Hotel. Our balcony was overlooking the bar roof which was scattered with cigarette butts. And then... the air-conditioning. Or should I say lack thereof. We had the A/C on low. Then on high. It just didn't work. We had a fitful night of sleep because it was so freaking hot. And there was no screen on the door, so we didn't really want to leave it open. Angry BF went downstairs at about 3:30 AM, and the guy at the front desk apologetically gave us a fan. From the fitness center. I'm not kidding. One of the Silver Beach Hotel's only saving graces (besides its location) was the fact that after complaining in the morning, we were given a discount. So our room was $200/night. Still ridiculous. We'd probably have been better off with Tom Bodett.

I stayed here for a wedding and had an awful experience. When I walked in to check in, I was told they couldn't fine me. I told them I had a confirmation number but I had to find it on my email (forgot to print it out). I told the lady I was with one of the weddings here that day. She looked again and said that I booked the room for the day before. I didn't believe her. When I called to book the room, the lady told me the block of rooms for the wedding was booked. I gave her the name of the wedding and everything. She said she still had rooms but the blocked off rooms were filled. I said that was fine and she gave me a confirmation number which I emailed to myself. I went back to my room and began looking for their confirmation email, but I couldn't find it. I only found the one I sent to myself. I then went to their website and entered in my email address and my confirmation number, no results. I then entered my other email addresses just incase, no results. I double and triple checked all of my emails for the confirmation email, didn't find it. I now believe I didn't receive a confirmation email and was book on their mistake for the wrong night. Especially when I gave the wedding information for the party I was with and I was told the blocked rooms were booked but they can give me another room. So of course I was charged for two nights because I was a no call no show the day before. I didn't want to start arguing with the lady at the front desk. The hotel was okay nothing special. I am not a big guy but felt the bed was a little small (length wise). Would not go back there, other hotels in the area I would try.

I was really disappointed by my stay here. The best thing about the Silver Beach Hotel is the location; very convenient to downtown and to walking trails along the river. But my room was disappointingly small, the furniture was all scuffed pretty badly, the bathroom was awkwardly laid out, and the bed was literally the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept in. I'm wondering if (hoping) this is due to it being the "internet special" room. The "hot internet deal", incidentally, is only $10 less than the AAA discount, which is in itself is only $10 less than full price. Which brings me to the price. Totally NOT worth the $230. Seriously. For that price, I was expecting a WHOLE lot more. I've spent less at a Red Lion in downtown Seattle....so WTF am I spending that much at a hotel in tiny St. Joseph, MI?

Not a good value! Rooms smell bad like carpet cleaner, yet rug was filthy! Low showers, cheap old TV, horrible loud A/C. Don't bother

We left a day early due to discovering that the housekeeping staff while cleaning our room took half our cold beer out of our fridge. It looks like they spent more time taking things then actually cleaning. We paid for a suite and it had a table.... Was dirty after the cleaning. The front desk clerk was disturbed and showed concern. The general manager not so much. Offered to knock ten bucks our bill(not that we asked for anything), but ten bucks, why bother. Plus, when I checked in, they had our reservation wrong, the room needs to be updated. I should have listened to the other bad reviews.

I too was skeptical about staying here, but my one-night stay ended up working out well. The staff downstairs was friendly and checked us in quickly, which was good, because I had to get ready and leave for a wedding in the town in ten minutes (thank you time change...). There are two cool birds in the lobby that will greet you. I think one asked me, "Wanna burger?" The room itself was clean. Everything seemed a bit dated, but everything worked and we had hot water. The location is great, and we had a good deal for the room rate.

Seriously? Two weeks in a row I end up staying at the worst hotels of my life-- both in Michigan. I feel betrayed by Tim Allen and his empty promises. Anyway, I could have overlooked the parrots in the lobby and forgiven the apathetic front desk staff, but when we checked into our room, I knew we were in trouble. The lock on the door had been broken (as in the lock was missing) and the interior lock had been sheared off. I'm not really sure what kind of crime happens in St Joseph Michigan, but it definitely happens in this room. When we complained and asked to switch rooms, we were told that we couldn't and they would just fix it for us. Admittedly, they did install the new locks, however, the whole experience made me a little nervous about the safety of the hotel. Next time I'm splurging at the Holiday Inn.

We were in town for a concert and looking for a place close to Silver Beach - our first choice was booked and this place was available so I booked it for 2 nights despite reading a lot of negative reviews. First of all I would not pay for the lake view as you can kind of sort of see the lake in the distance, but it's really not all that close to the beach - maybe it would be better if they gave you a telescope in the room. I stay in a lot of less expensive hotels when traveling for business and this place was on par with a lot of them. It was a relatively short walk to Silver Beach (less than half a mile) which is a very nice beach. The indoor pool looked nice for kids. The breakfast was very typical if not a bit worse than most hotel free breakfasts - not really sure what was up with those scrambled eggs, but no one cracked them within 100 miles of the kitchen, that's for sure! The rooms were spacious (except for the bathroom were you had to fight your way around the door to get in and out), the bed was decent, and while the place was old it wasn't a lot different than so many hotels. It was expensive for what it was, but comparable to other places farther away from the beach. All in all not that bad for what we needed it for - just not that great either.

This place is under new management, and hopefully they are going to remodel the entire place. It's terribly overpriced for what it is. There are water stains in the hallways, the elevators don't always work, there are cigarette stains on the comforters, and the showers are old, and not that clean. It is operating under a new name now, but until they do some overhaul, I do not recommend a stay here. You'll be better off at Motel 6.
